The Queensland childcare industry has commended Prime Minister Gillard’s announcement that parents will receive rebate payments fortnightly if re-elected.
Childcare Queensland, Queensland’s peak childcare association with over 850 members has been lobbying the government for years for changes to a fortnightly payment system.
“This announcement will see parents receive a fortnightly boost to their budget that will make childcare so much more affordable for those on low incomes,” Childcare Queensland President Peter Price said.
“This will mean parents may have up to $200 a week repaid to them each fortnight rather than the current quarter instalments,” Mr Price said.
“We applaud this re-election promise and hope that all parties support this decision.”
The fortnightly payments will start from July 2011.
Childcare Queensland is Australia’s largest state child care organisation with a membership of 850 long day care centres, caring for 115,000 children, communicating with over 210,000 parents and representing 15,000 staff.
