An Invitation
It is with pleasure that Childcare Queensland invites you to participate in the 2012 National Conference to be held from 14 -16 September 2012.
The conference will be held at Jupiters Gold Coast. Jupiters is renowned as one of the Gold Coast’s most iconic venues. Jupiters Hotel & Casino Gold Coast is located next to Pacific Fair Shopping Centre on seven acres of lush tropical gardens and only a short monorail ride to the beach and the cosmopolitan Broadbeach dining strip. Just 30 minutes from the Gold Coast airport and one hour from Brisbane airport.
Childcare Queensland’s two-day conference provides valuable opportunities for delegates to interact with sponsor & exhibitor representatives, and is an important early childhood education and care forum for educators to network and reflect on current thinking and practice.
As a not-for-profit, member-funded organization, Childcare Queensland is the peak long day care Association in Queensland and is Australia’s largest state child care Association. The 2012 Childcare Queensland Conference has been endorsed by the Australian Childcare Alliance which represents 70% of private and community long day care services in Australia.
Childcare Queensland looks forward to welcoming you to the 2012 National Conference.
Preliminary Program, Registration brochure and exhibitor prospectus will be available soon so make sure you watch this space.
Conference 2011
The 2011 conference provided industry professionals with the chance to interact and exchange ideas on practical solutions to issues, and to build a strong base of industry contacts, while highlighting the importance of the early years and embracing the National Quality Agenda reforms. During the weekend delegates were informed by an array of speakers, industry information sessions and interactive workshops relevant to the early learning sector and individual needs of licensees, directors and staff.
Our sincere thanks are extended to our many valued sponsors, as without their support, this event would not be possible. We have seen the return of many long term loyal supporters of the Association, as well as several new sponsors.
As the peak body for private long day care centres in Queensland, and Australia’s largest state childcare association, we have been encouraged by an increase in membership over the past year. We are also encouraged by the increasing number of interstate delegates attending our annual conference.
We’d like to thank our delegates, exhibitors, sponsors and speakers – you have all contributed towards making 2011 conference be the success it was. We look forward to seeing you at 2012 National Conference.

Introduction to Marte Meo in a Child Care Setting - Liz Kernahan
Liz Kernahan is one of a few clinical psychologists in Adelaide who is also a Marte Meo trained therapist, and has dedicated the past two and a half years learning this innovative and highly successful therapeutic program under the direct supervision of Maria Aarts, who devised the Marte Meo method.
Marte Meo (“On one’s own strength”) is a new and exciting program from Holland which aims to give parents, teachers, child care educators and professionals a way of understanding the meaning behind children’s behaviours, and ways to help support children’s development. Behaviours such as non compliance and aggression carry a developmental message, understanding this message is important because it tells us what the child needs to learn for their development.
The Marte Meo program assists in understanding what the behavioural message is, and then what to do to support the specific need of the child.
